Perl Editor
The Perl editor included in EditRocket includes many tools to make Perl programming and source code creation easier. Listed below is information on the Perl specific tools offered by EditRocket. See the General Highlights section at the bottom of the page for more of what EditRocket has to offer.
Perl Code Builder
The Perl Code Builder includes information on the functions contained in the Perl library, for example, Array, File, List, String, and many more.
The Code Builder works by allowing users to select a function category, such as String, and then it displays function signature and function description information for all functions in the selected category. The user can copy the function name to the editor, and the signature will display as a tooltip.
Perl Sidekick
The Perl Code Assistant gives users the ability to quickly enter many common Perl constructs into the text editor with the click of a button, or via customizable keyboard shortcuts. Some examples of sidekick options are control statements such as for, while, if, etc., and try blocks. The Perl sidekick also includes a tab for the Perl Function Navigator to allow users to jump to a function in the current editor with the click of a button.
Perl Function Navigator
The Perl Function Navigator tool parses the editor contents for Perl functions and displays them in a clickable list. Clicking an option from the list takes the user directly to the point in the editor where the function is defined.
Execute Perl Programs
Users can execute Perl programs and view the standard and error output using the Tools -> Execute Program -> Execute Perl Program menu option.
Show in Web Browser
Users can view perl scripts in the web browser by selecting the File -> Show in Web Browser option. The first time launch of this tool will prompt users to enter the local web server information. EditRocket will then build the appropriate URL, and create temporary files if necessary to diplay the perl script in the web browser.
